With the weather beginning to warm up and flights starting to get booked up, it’s clear that summer is right around the corner. With that in mind it’s time to start thinking about one of the most important holiday essentials; your summer holiday music playlist. Get it right and you’ll be kicking back by the pool in musical bliss, get it wrong and you could be in a Rick Astley fueled state of depression. But don’t worry, StudentUniverse is here to help.
Without further ado, let’s get into our top student summer holiday songs:
#1 – Rudimental ft. John Newman – Feel the Love
A tune quickly becoming a summer classic, “Feel the Love” is a safe start to any playlist and will guarantee you’ll not immediately lose speaker ownership. This tune fits every mood, so if you’re wanting to get the party started or relax after a hard days sunbathing, this ticks both boxes.
#2 – Mr Probz – Waves
This slightly more stripped back version of “Waves” has a different pace to the more popular Robin Schulz remixed version, and is bound to get you some early holiday street cred. Perfect for kicking back on the beach or relaxing in the evening.
#3 – Manfred Mann – Blinded by the Light
it’s time to retreat into a bit of chilled 70s rock and roll with Manfred Mann’s cover of Bruce Springsteen’s “Blinded by the Light”. Guaranteeing a relaxing 7 minutes of musical bliss, this 1976 tune will leave you wondering why they don’t make music like this anymore.
#4 – Jimmy Webb – Galveston
Having originally written this song for Glen Campbell, Jimmy Webb released it in 1972 and it’s simply stunning. It’s got a much more chilled out and slower vibe than the original Glen Campbell version, and this makes it another perfect summer chill-out song.
#5 – Gotye – Somebody that I Used to Know
Gotye’s huge hit slots in nicely as we begin to build the pace up. An excellent summer holiday tune; it’s another that can be partied along to, or played in a chilled background setting.
#6 – Of Monsters and Men – Little Talks
Now we’re really starting. This huge Of Monsters and Men tune has taken the UK by storm and must be a mainstay on every summer playlist. A great one for getting people up, dancing and singing along.
#7 – John Newman – Love Me Again
The only artist to feature twice on our list, and technically he was just a feature on the earlier Rudimental track, John Newman’s almost as hot right now as that beach in Ibiza.
#8 – Clean Bandit ft. Jess Glynne – Rather Be
One to jump up on the chairs and yell at the top of your lungs with your friends to; “Rather Be” carries the perfect student summer holiday message: “When I am with you, there’s no place I’d rather be”. This will get people up and dancing at even the stuffiest party.
#9 – Sigma – Nobody to Love
This song is just huge right now, and can’t be ignored for playlist purposes. It ticks all the boxes for a summer classic and we promise it’ll tear it up at any night – in or out.
#10 – Wilkinson – Afterglow
A song that’s first line is “even though the dancing’s done, the night is young” is a guaranteed smasher to keep that party going. “Afterglow” will help you make the most of your summer holiday, and to top it off it’s got one of the coolest recent videos we’ve seen.
That’s it, 10 songs to ensure your summer playlist is as hot as the weather. Please share this post if you liked some of the songs and let us know in the comments if you think we’ve missed anything destined to be a summer classic!
